Speaking on Wednesday during the handover at the hospital, Patriots Malawi chairperson Kamuzu Chibambo said they sourced the equipment and supplies through partners from the United States of America.

He said the donation is a result of team work and sacrifice by sons and daughters of the soil living in diaspora.

Chibambo appealed to workers at the hospital to take care of the equipment.

“As a country, we are facing many socio-economic challenges. As a result, we are losing people due to lack of proper healthcare. So, take care of the equipment and be accountable,” he said.

Mchinji district director of health services Yohane Mwale commended the the Patriots for the donation.

He also warned healthcare workers against mismanagement of the equipment and supplies considering past history where some medical equipment has gone missing without anyone accounting for it.

Senior Chief Mduwa said the donation was timely because the hospital receives many patients from across the district.

“We will be vigilant to ensure that the equipment is safe. We will discuss with the district commissioner on how to protect the equipment,” he said.

In his remarks, Traditional Authority Zulu said the facility also treats patients from neighbouring Zambia and Mozambique.

Besides Mchinji, the Patriots have also donated medical equipment and supplies to Zomba and Queen Elizabeth central hospitals as well as Nsanje District Hospital
